BULLTERIES

BULLTERIES

Pattern entered in the FCI register under the number 11d (1972 r.)

This race was originally unbalanced, and this name was used for hybrids obtained as a result of crossing a terrier with a bulldog and used for dog fighting. The sport was concentrated in the gloomiest port districts, where the life of a dog and a man was valued as little. Such amateurs did not pay attention to external features. However, they expected strength and dexterity from their pets in the fight against the enemy four- or two-legged. In the second half of the last century, this breed was significantly compensated by the addition of blood to the white English terrier. You could say, that the terrier gave the bull terrier an eminently distinctive appearance in this form, in which we see him lately. In addition to the bulldog and terrier, the ancestors of the present bull terrier are also reportedly a Dalmatian.

Initially, this dog gained popularity in a small group of people, who were looking for a good companion, and at the same time a stiff protector. Later, as they gain more and more popularity, he was becoming less aggressive, but without losing any of its positive qualities.. Currently, he is rightly called a fearless gladiator with a balanced gentleman character. Nevertheless, a novice in canine sports should be cautioned, that the bull terrier is a great individual with a rather difficult character and requires an exceptionally skilled and controlled guide, if there are no conflicting situations.

The circle of bull terrier lovers is growing every year. Despite the increase in popularity, it did not suffer qualitatively, as it happened to races, which suddenly became fashionable.

Head. Long, silna i głęboka, prostokątna przy końcu kufy, lecz nie grubo ciosana. Oglądana z przodu — jajowata, wypełniona pod oczami, bez zagłębień. Pokrywa czaszki płaska od ucha do ucha. Z profilu przebiega łagodnym łukiem ku dołowi od szczytu głowy do końca czarnego nosa, wygiętego ku dołowi. Nostrils well developed. Oczy powinny wydawać się wąskie, triangular, ukośnie i głęboko osadzone, czarne lub bardzo ciemne, with a penetrating gaze (błysku). The ears are small, cienkie i blisko siebie osadzone; przy prostym ustawieniu sztywno stoją. The mandible is strong. Teeth healthy, czyste, strong, duże i zupełnie równe. Wymagany zgryz nożycowy. Wargi zwarte o brzegach przylegających.

Neck. Very muscular, long, wysklepiona, zwężająca się od łopatek do głowy, bez fałdów luźnej skóry.

Torso. Rounded with well sprung ribs. Chest broad, deep from the withers to the brisket, so that the breastbone is closer to the ground than the belly. Short back, slightly arched over the loins. The underline rises gently arched from the breastbone to the belly.

Front limbs. Shoulders strong and muscular, but not too massive. Broad scapula, flat and close to the chest, clearly oblique. The forelimbs with the strongest round bones provide a strong support for the dog, moderately long and perfectly parallel. Straight elbows. Pasterns strong and straight.

Hindquarters. Seen from behind, they are parallel. Muscular thighs and lower legs. Knees and ankle well laid, metatarsal bones short and strong. Feet short and compact with arched toes.

Tail. Short, low set, carried horizontally. Thick at the base, tapering towards a thin tip.

Robe. Short, flat and rough to the touch, shiny.

Ointment. Pure white in whites. Skin pigmentation and spots on the head are not faults. In colored, the main ointment should prevail. Brindle are the most valued.

Body dimensions. There is no limit to the weight, nor about the height, but there should always be an impression of maximum mass for a given height. The pattern specifies neither height, nor body weight, but practically speaking, the dimensions of the best specimens oscillate around 20 kg i 40—55 cm.

Chody. The dog is on the move, with a free light step, sliding and lively. Viewed from the front and rear, the fore and hind legs move in parallel. The front legs have a long reach, the hind legs move freely from the hip joint through the knee to the ankle joint.

Disadvantages. Any deviation from the given points is a fault, which should be assessed in relation to the degree of its severity. Deafness disqualifies you.

The miniature bull terrier differs from the bull terrier only in weight and height, which should not exceed 35 cm i 8 kg.
